There is no end to the options available for social networking. Each of the social media platforms have their own unique elements, but they all serve two primary purposes for you professionally. They help you:

  1. Build your personal brand
  2. Develop (and enhance) relationships

With that in mind, here are some quick ideas for how you can use some of the most common social networks:

  • Facebook- Share relevant content for your profession, “like” companies you are interested in, set your privacy settings to keep personal things personal and professional things public.
  • Twitter- Follow companies of interest and thought leaders in your industry, share content relevant to your profession, use # “hashtags” to search for content relevant to you and to add your voice to the collective conversation.
  • LinkedIn- Connect with professionals in your field, join groups that align with your industry, share professional content, publish articles that demonstrate your expertise, generate recommendations and endorsements to verify your skills and talents.
  • Instagram- Follow companies of interest and thought leaders in your industry, share moments in your professional life with others, use # “hashtags” to search for content relevant to you and to add your voice to the collective conversation.

This is just a small sample, but it will help you get started considering which platforms might be best for you and your professional growth.
