A Portfolio can help you demonstrate specific skills, qualifications, and accomplishments to an employer. The format of your portfolio will depend on the way you see yourself using it. With an electronic portfolio, you are able to make it available for people to see even before a job interview. LinkedIn can serve as a strong electronic portfolio as it allows you to display your qualifications and attach evidence to back it up. Because it is available to anyone online, it can also help you passively build your brand. An electronic portfolio could also be used during an interview (with the right technology), to present digital content such as a website you have designed or an advertising plan you created.

A physical portfolio is helpful in an interview setting to provide examples of what you have done or letters of recommendation. If you have a number of physical, tangible things to present, this could be a good option. However, it will not necessarily going to help you get the initial interview.
