While both of these documents are used in the application process, they serve different purposes based on the type of job for which you are applying.

A resume is the more commonly used document and is typically a 1-2 page presentation of your strongest qualifications for the specific role you are pursuing. Since it is not comprehensive, you can leave off less relevant experiences.

A curriculum vitae (CV) is often used when applying for faculty and high-level administration roles in higher education. They are used in the fields of psychology and human services to demonstrate practicum experience. CVs are typically longer and therefore more comprehensive than a resume and place a heavy focus on education and academic experience.
