A statement of teaching philosophy is an application document unique to higher education. It typically includes:

  • Why you want to teach.
  • What your approach to teaching is.
  • How you view your role and responsibility to students.

Many institutions require such a statement as part of the employment application.  It gives them both a sample of your writing and a view into how you might look in the classroom.

You can review our article on writing a statement of teaching philosophy for additional information and suggestions on how to make your teaching philosophy stand out.
