An informational interview is a conversation with another professional currently employed in an organization or industry you are considering. In this discussion, you can ask questions, seek advice, and gain information from professionals who have insight into specific roles or organizations. By asking questions, you can learn about an individual’s real-world experience and better understand if a specific position or organization would be a good fit for you. In addition, it also provides a valuable networking opportunity, allowing you to expand your connections and build your reputation in a field.

Keep in mind that an informational interview is not a job interview and the focus of the meeting is information gathering. However, like a job interview, it is important to be prepared for these meetings and to treat them professionally.
