When choosing a mentor, it is important to consider what you want them to mentor you in: are you looking for professional development related to your role, to enter a new field, or to move into a leadership position? Clarifying what you are looking for will help you identify a mentor who can help you achieve that. When choosing a mentor, it is important that they are someone:

  • You respect professionally
  • Well connected in that profession
  • Willing and able to be available to you
  • You can relate to on a personal level
