Often a site will require that Capella University's IRB has reviewed and approved a study before deciding if a researcher may conduct the study at their site. As Capella University's IRB requires site approval prior to IRB approval this situation can leave researchers wondering how to proceed.

In these situations, Capella University’s IRB can review the study and grant conditional approval to the study. This is called an 'approval with conditions'. A study that is approved with conditions meets the ethical criteria for approval. When a study is approved with conditions, the researcher is provided a conditional approval letter through IRBManager that they can provide to the site.

Once the researcher receives site approval, the approval letters are provided to the IRB and if all conditions of the approval are met, the study will receive full approval and the IRB milestone processed. Details about how to submit the documents will be included with the conditional approval letter.

For more information on approval with conditions, consult the IRB A-Z handbook.
