The nature of your study design will determine what forms you need to submit to the IRB.

When you first login to IRBManager, doctoral learners completing a dissertation will have two options:

  •  New IRB Application
    •  If you are collecting new data, either directly or indirectly, from participants, you must complete the IRB Application
  • Records Based Research Application.
    •   If you are only analysing already existing records, complete the Records Based Research Application

As you answer questions about your study procedures, you will prompted to upload the applicable supporting documents.

Before beginning your IRB application, you should have thought through your recruitment strategies, how you will consent your participants, and drafted copies of the recruitment materials and informed consent form. You should also be prepared to discuss strategies for protecting participant privacy during the study and the confidentiality of data. If you have a potential Conflict of Interest (CoI), you will need to detail your CoI management plan within the IRB Application.

Note all researchers are required to upload a copy of their approved Research Plan at the beginning of the application before answering any specific study questions.
