Per the federal regulations, IRB approval cannot exceed more than one year. In order to give researchers plenty of time to submit the continue review application, IRBManager notifies 30 before the study expiration.

If you are still collecting data, you will need to apply for continuing review of your study. To submit for continuing review:

• Log into IRBManager (https://capella.my.irbmanager.com/)
• Click on your study number (under 'My Projects' on the main page)
• Click 'Start xForm' on the left hand actions menu
• Select the 'Continuing Review' form and submit after completing the form

If you have completed your data collection and analysis, you may have the IRB close your study so that you’ll no longer receive notification that your approval is expiring. You may notify the IRB that they study may be closed by emailing the IRB Office.  The automatically generated IRBManager notices will cease once the approval is renewed or the study is closed. If you do not notify the IRB that they may close the study or apply for continuing review, the IRB will close your study.

Note that studies approved as exempt do not have an approval expiration.
