Formatting table:

  • If the tables are relatively short, they should be set in the body of the manuscript. Tables should be set near where they are discussed.
  • Very lengthy multi-paged tables might be better placed as an appendix. See APA 2.13 for guidance on numbering tables in appendices--APA uses a letter prefix with the table numbers, so, for example, if Appendix A has three tables, they would be identified as Table A1, Table A2, and Table A3; these tables are to be listed on the List of Tables.
  • A few design reminders: the smallest font size for tables is 10 points, and tables must fit within the allowable margins of the page. If the tables need to be redesigned, APA Table 5.1, which discusses Basic Components of a Table, can be a good gateway for graphic design creativity.
  • Chapter 3 of the Dissertation Format Guidelines discusses table formatting for Capella dissertations.
