If you receive a message from Capella indicating that you have a rejected FAFSA*, it means that during processing FSA identified one or more issues that needs to be addressed. While there are many reasons this could happen, two of the most common reasons are:

1. Tax/AGI: Taxes paid is either equal to or greater than “Adjusted Gross Income”

This requires you to make a correction to your FAFSA, as the taxes one pays can never be equal or greater than the AGI earned. Please note that once you have made corrections to your FAFSA, you must submit the changes and receive a new confirmation number. The SAR will not update unless this occurs.

2. “Signature not received”

This means the FAFSA was not signed. You will need to use your FSA ID to electronically sign the FAFSA. Alternatively, you can print the “Signature Page,” sign it, and then mail it to the Department of Education, but this can delay the update process.

*You will also receive an e-mail notification from FAFSA indicating you have an incomplete Student Aid Report (SAR).
