Graduate PLUS loans are additional federal funding options for eligible graduate learners. Graduate PLUS loans are credit-based loans offered by the Department of Education. You must have either accepted the federal annual maximum of $20,500 in Direct Loans or have reached your Direct Loans graduate aggregate limit of $138,500 prior to requesting any Graduate PLUS loans.

If you decide to use Graduate PLUS please keep the following in mind:

  • The credit check is processed by the Department of Education, and is good for 6 months. Any additional Graduate PLUS applications submitted during this time will use the same credit check.
  • If you have an endorser for your loan, your endorser will need to endorse any new PLUS loans separately.
  • If you are using a PLUS loan and take a quarter of inactivity, any non-disbursed PLUS loans will be canceled and you will need to apply for a new loan.
