If your residency is credit-bearing, you will be eligible for financial aid to cover the cost of that residency’s tuition as long as you meet the normal eligibility requirements. However, while you may be eligible for a refund during the quarter of your residency, there is no guarantee you will receive this refund before the residency begins. Because funds may disburse after the residency it is essential that you plan ahead to cover your food, hotel and travel expenses.

If you are taking a non-credit bearing residency, you will not be eligible for federal financial aid unless you are also registered at least part-time during that quarter. Capella accounts for the cost of attending one residency per year and adds a reasonable amount for travel expenses to your quarterly budget for the full year.

Regardless of the type of residency you are taking, it is important that you arrange payment prior to attending.

We advise that you save your financial aid refunds in anticipation of the residency costs. There may be no additional loan disbursement before the residency, and you will need to budget appropriately to cover the residency costs. Capella cannot hold remaining financial aid funds on account for learners.
