If you receive veteran benefits, there could be several reasons you have a balance, depending on the specific benefit you are using:

  • The VA directly pays recipients of the GI Bill (Ch. 30, 1606, or 1607) or the Dependents Educational Assistance Program (Ch. 35). Since the funds do not come directly to Capella, you will need to use the funds received from the VA to make payments toward your balance.
  • For recipients of the Post-9/11 GI Bill (Ch. 33), the most common reason for a balance is that you have not reported your enrollment to the VA. Other reasons you may have a balance are:
    • The VA has not submitted your payment to Capella.
    • The VA payment was insufficient to cover your entire tuition and fee balance. You are responsible for any outstanding balance; we encourage you to contact the VA or Capella Armed Forces and Veterans Support team to discuss why the payment was insufficient.

For participants in the Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment Program (Ch. 31), contact your vocational rhabitation counselor regarding payment.
