A Digital Object Identifier (DOI) is a code that identifies a specific digital document.

  • Visit the Persistent Links and DOIs Library Guide for instructions on how to find an article DOI in the library databases. Each database lists article DOIs in a different place, so this guide includes screenshots and examples of where to find DOIs in each of the databases and vendors.

  • In many cases this document is an electronic journal article.

  • A DOI is similar to the ISBN system for books.

Note:  In most cases RefWorks will pull an article's DOI automatically.
