As a Capella Alumnus you will continue to have access to your RefWorks account without any additional fees.

NOTE: You will need to have a non-Capella University email address on your account in order to continue to have access to RefWorks.

  • If using your Capella University email address:
    • login to your account.
    • change your email address to a non-Capella email address.
    • You can find instructions on updating your email address here: Update email in RefWorks.
  • You will be able to export, track and organize content into folders for easier access in the same manner you do now.
    • However, as you will no longer have access to learner library databases the Find Full Text button and the URL in the Links field that currently retrieve full text content will no longer work.

Find Full Text button and link in RefWorks

  • To maintain a full-text copy of these articles, you may wish to download and save article PDFs before you graduate.
    • You can attach these PDFs to each citation if you like (see Adding PDFs) or save them in a folder on your hard drive.
  • Once you graduate, you will be able to export new records from the alumni library databases, but the Find Full Text button and the URL in the links field that currently retrieve full text content will no longer work due to the manner in which alumni databases must authenticate.
    • One work around for the alumni database records is to copy the accession number from the RefWorks record.

Accession Number in RefWorks record

  • Paste that number into the search box in the appropriate database
  • Select "Accession Number" from the drop box to the right.
  • This will provide access to the article in question in a relatively short amount of time, but you must know in which database the article is stored to retrieve it.

NOTEYou will not be able to access full text from Journal and Book Locator as an Alumnus.

  • This journal is in Academic Search PremierProQuest Central, and Psychology Database in the Learner Library.

  • If the database is in the Alumni Library, search for the Accession Number.
    • If a journal is in multiple databases, you might have to check more than one to see if the Accession Number is available.

NOTE: Just because a journal is in a database in the Alumni Library does not mean the full text is going to be available.

We understand this process is less convenient than the process you used as a student, but at this time we are unable to provide a better technical solution.
