No, alumni cannot purchase access to the learner library.

Check out the Alumni Library Guide for more information on what is and is not available through the alumni library and for other suggestions.

Capella University, like all academic institutions, is limited by publishers as to what content can be made available to alumni.

  • Alumni access is determined by the publishers.  Publishers view alumni as professionals and practitioners and not primary members of the academic institution’s population.  Publishers prefer to have alumni purchase individual memberships or subscriptions to their content to better support their business model.  Capella’s Library and Alumni Association staff work hard to ensure that we align the resources available to alumni and those offered to students, as much as is possible within these constraints.  Our goal is to provide alumni with as much student library content as possible.

  • There are other places that you should check for resources before you purchase them. Many corporations have their own libraries or information centers.  You may have access to resources you're not aware of through your workplace! You can also ask a librarian at your local public library, or check your local public library website to see what databases that library subscribes to.

  • If you can't find what you need through the Alumni library, you may want to explore individual memberships and subscriptions offered at reduced cost or even free access to publications, databases, website content and more.  Membership with the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM) or the American Psychological Association (APA) are examples.
