color. The text should be aligned to the left, with the text on the right hand side being staggered (not “full justified” to the edge on the right side). The paper should have one-inch margins on all sides. Additionally, there should be no extra spaces between paragraphs (you may have to highlight paragraphs, click “Format,” then “Paragraph” and make sure that the box “Don’t add spaces between paragraphs of the same style” is checked). To make a new paragraph, space down using the “Enter” key at the end of the last line of the previous paragraph. Paragraphs should be indented using the “Tab” key.

An APA-formatted essay also must have a correctly formatted title page with the title of the essay, your name, the name of the university and a running header.  Each subsequent page of the document should have a running head and page number.

All subject level headings are bolded excepted the word “References” on the reference page and the introductory paragraph. The introductory paragraph does not have a header; instead, immediately start typing your introductory paragraph on the very first line of the page that comes directly after the cover page. If your document has a table of contents, begin your introductory paragraph on the first line of the page that comes directly after your table of contents.
