For large sections of a paper, bold the heading and align it to the center. Capitalize all major words.

For subsections within a large section, bold the heading and align it to the left. Capitalize all major words.

For smaller subsections within a subsection, write it like a sentence. Indent it, bold it, and punctuate it like a sentence. Do not capitalize all major words in this kind of heading. Instead, it should look like the first sentence of a paragraph, only bold.

The introductory paragraph of an APA-formatted paper does not have a heading; instead, immediately start typing the first line of the paragraph. Also, the word “References” on the reference list page is not bolded.
